A Complete Guide to Hyundai’s Lineup in South Africa and Upcoming Updates

Date:

Hyundai has consistently maintained a strong presence in the South African automotive market, offering a wide range of vehicles that cater to diverse needs. With a lineup of 12 different models, Hyundai provides options from entry-level hatchbacks to midsize SUVs and premium people carriers. This commitment to versatility and regular updates has made Hyundai the fourth best-selling car brand in South Africa, following Toyota, VW, and Suzuki.

Hyundai’s Current Lineup

Hyundai’s ability to keep its vehicles fresh and competitive has contributed significantly to its success. Among the lineup, the Santa Fe holds the title of the oldest model, last receiving a facelift in 2021. While the next-generation Santa Fe has launched overseas, Hyundai’s new business strategy might determine if it will be introduced locally.

In contrast, the Grand i10, i20, Venue, and Creta have seen price cuts this year, as Hyundai focuses on making its popular models more affordable for South African consumers. However, the automaker has confirmed that the 2022 Creta will receive a facelift next year, while updates for models like the Tucson, Grand Creta, Staria, and Venue remain unconfirmed.

Recent Updates

Hyundai has been diligent in refreshing its lineup over the years:

  • The flagship Palisade was revamped in early 2023.
  • The new Grand i10 followed shortly after, also in 2023.
  • In 2024, the i20 hatchback received an update in July.
  • September saw the launch of the all-new Exter crossover, an entry-level addition to the Hyundai family.

What’s Not Coming

Despite Hyundai’s focus on updates, the automaker has decided not to bring the refreshed i30 and Kona to South Africa. The 2022 models of these vehicles may be the last versions available locally for the foreseeable future.

Hyundai’s strategic downscaling and price adjustments reflect its commitment to staying competitive while aligning with the needs of the South African market. Consumers can look forward to more exciting updates in the near future.
