Singapore PM to visit South Africa and Kenya

The Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong will be making a six-day official visit to South Africa and Kenya.

This follows Mr Lee’s announcement of the three-year Singapore-Africa Partnership Package (Sapp) during his June 2022 visit to Rwanda, a new effort to increase technical support to the continent.

The Prime Minister will meet with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa In Cape Town, who will host him for an official lunch.

The two leaders will attend a business roundtable with corporate representatives from both sides, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday.

PM Lee’s travel to South Africa is at President Ramaphosa’s request, as the two nations mark 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2023.

Mr Lee will also dine with South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile and meet Singaporeans living in South Africa and the area.

According to the PMO, he will go to Nairobi on Wednesday to meet Kenyan President William Ruto.

Mr Lee will be accompanied by a business delegation led by the Singapore Business Federation to South Africa and Kenya.

During his visit, Singapore’s Prime Minister is anticipated to sign a number of agreements in sectors such as human capital development with both South Africa and Kenya.
