Tanzania Teams Up with US Sports Clubs for Tourism Promotion

Tanzania is set to develop its tourism and investment opportunities with the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Major League Soccer (MLS), National Football League (NFL), and National Basketball Association (NBA) clubs in the United States. The deal will see the Seattle Sounders (MSL), Seattle Seahawks (NFL), and Portland Trailblazers (NBA) promote Tanzania’s tourism sector.

Increasing Tourism

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources, Dr. Hassan Abasi, expressed Tanzania’s commitment to promoting its tourism sector with the help of sports. The country aims to increase the number of tourists visiting its destinations. The signing of the MOUs is part of this strategy to promote Tanzania to a global audience.

Promoting Tanzania to a Global Audience

Tanzania’s tourism board director, Damas Mfugale, accompanied Dr. Abasi to the signing ceremony, which was held at Lumen Stadium in Seattle. Speaking at the event, Dr. Abasi urged American businesses and sports enthusiasts to visit Tanzania The chairman of the Seattle Sounders, Hanauer, also spoke at the event. He highlighted his previous visits to Tanzania with the Seattle Sounders, where the team played against Yanga, Simba, and the National Team in the 2000s.

Ready to Boost Tanzania’s Tourism

Hanauer, who is also a majority shareholder at Sounders, pledged to join forces with other stakeholders to boost Tanzania’s tourism sector. The event was hosted by Vulcan LLC, a company founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, in collaboration with representatives from Google, Starbucks, the Seattle Mayor’s Office, Boeing, and the local business community.

Signing the memorandums with major American sports clubs provides opportunities to development of the country’s tourism sector. By promoting its natural and cultural attractions to a global audience, Tanzania hopes to attract more visitors to the country. Tanzania’s partnership with the Seattle Sounders, Seattle Seahawks, and Portland Trailblazers will help to achieve this goal.
